Discipline

No child will be subjected to any kind of physical or psychological punishment (such as spanking, sarcasm or derogatory remarks). Children are not punished nor intentionally embarrassed for bathroom accidents. These acts are not allowed by any staff member, visitor or parent while in the Center. Positive reinforcers, such as stickers, hugs and extra activities, are generally more effective and are used whenever possible.

Discipline and Behavior Management Policy

Praise and positive reinforcement are effective methods for the behavior management of children. When children receive positive, non-violent and understanding interactions from adults and others, they develop good self-concepts, problem solving abilities and self-discipline. Based on this belief of how children learn and develop values, the Center will practice the following discipline and behavior management policy listed on the right.

Safe Sleep Policy

We believe that a safe sleep environment for infants helps lower the risk for infants dying from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.

We DO the following to the Children

  • Praise, reward and encourage
  • Reason with and set limits
  • Model appropriate behavior
  • Modify the classroom environment to prevent problems before they occur
  • Listen to what they say
  • Provide alternatives for inappropriate behavior
  • Explain the natural & logical consequences of their actions
  • Respect their needs, desires and feelings
  • Ignore minor misbehaviors
  • Explain things at the child’s level
  • Use short supervised periods of ‘time out’ when needed
  • Apply our behavior management policy consistently

Safe Sleep Practices and Environment

  1. Safe sleep training for all staff working with Infants will be provided.
  2. Infants will always be placed on their backs to sleep for infants 12 months and younger. This facility does not accept Alternate Sleep. Position Waivers.
  3. When babies can easily turnover from back to stomach, They will be placed to sleep on their backs and then allowed to roll over if they prefer.
  4. Sleeping Infants will be visually checked daily every 15-20 minutes. The sleep chart provided in the class room will be completed each time the child is checked. Sleep charts will be kept for a minimum of 30 days. In the first few weeks of enrollment infants will be monitored more carefully. We will check for normal skin color, normal breathing, level of sleep and signs of overheating.
  5. Staff will reduce the risk of overheating by avoiding overdressing or overwrapping infants. The room temperature will be maintain between 68-75 degrees.
  6. All parents will receive a written copy of the Safe Sleep Policy and sign they have received the policy.
  7. Infants heads will not be covered with blankets or bedding. Sleep sacks will only be used in the cribs.
  8. No loose bedding, pillows, stuffed animals or any items will be allowed in cribs. Pacifiers are permitted in the cribs. When pacifiers fall out of babies mouth they cannot be reinserted while sleeping.
  9. Safety Approved Cribs with a firm mattress and tight fitting sheets will only be used for babies.
  10. Each baby will have their own crib and only one child per crib is permitted unless evacuating babies from the facility. No Smoking on the premises.
