Health and Safety

For the safety of your child, we conduct monthly fire drills as well as a tornado drill each spring. We make every effort to prepare the children for the drills so that they are not frightened and so that they understand the purpose of the drill.

We are a tobacco free facility. The use of any and all tobacco products is prohibited everywhere by everyone at all times.

Transportation is provided by the Center to all activities held outside of the Center. While the vehicle is in motion, all children are secured by a seat belt and all vehicle doors are locked. No child is ever left in an unattended vehicle. Only authorized staff members are allowed to transport the children between the Center and the field trip destination.

The facility will only take children to a public pool where there are lifeguards on duty. All children will be given an orientation training session including a swim test the first day of each summer. If the child does not pass the swim test they must wear a life vest provided by Raleigh Parks & Recreation.

We will maintain a 1 to 8 teacher child ratio and only 5 year old and older will be allowed to go to the pool.

Each trip to the pool will be treated as any other field trip. The trip will be posted in the classroom and a signed permission slip will be required.

Teachers will participate with children while at the Pool. One staff will walk the edge while other staff are in the pool.

Eye contact will be maintained at all time. Staff and children will abide by all safety rules of the pool.

All medications and poisonous supplies are kept in a secured cabinet.

Any refrigerated medications are kept in a secured container inside of the refrigerator.

Our staff members have been trained in First Aid and CPR and are trained to respond appropriately in the event of emergencies. If your child has a medical emergency, we will immediately transport him/her (or have transportation provided) to a nearby hospital emergency room. The Center will contact you regarding the emergency and provide information about the location and condition of your child.

The Center is not liable for accidents or illness occurring to a child while in our care unless it can be proved that the accident or illness was the direct result of our staff member's negligence. The Center maintains medical insurance coverage in case accidents do occur that require medical attention.

Building Maintenance

The facility is cleaned on a nightly basis which includes mopping and/or vacuuming all floors and cleaning all of the bathrooms. Our staff members maintain the classrooms daily by sweeping, removing trash, cleaning up spills and washing table surfaces with soap/water and bleach/water. Bathrooms are sprayed with bleach/water each night to kill germs. Each week, our staff members clean chairs, window sills and cabinets and also dust all cubbies. Each Friday, all children take home their naptime laundry to be washed. The cots and mats are then sprayed with vitaphen and placed in the sun to dry.

The building will be cleaned nightly by a company hired by the Center. They will clean the floors, bathroom, and offices as well as sanitize specified areas. Staff will support in cleaning and sanitizing their classroom daily.
